Why the Episode Says Chan Thomas’s Pole-Shift Theory Doesn’t Hold Up

Chan Thomas’s pole shift theory gets taken apart on the simplest ground possible: the case presented here says he asks you to accept huge physical claims on very thin support.
Chan Thomas is the named subject, and the objections center on how he builds his argument in The Adam and Eve Story. AJ Gentile says Thomas leans on old texts, broad deductions, and dramatic conclusions without showing the kind of evidence that would connect one step to the next.
The result is a theory that reads more like a chain of escalating inferences than a worked scientific case. You get flood stories, ancient references, and big geological claims pushed together, but not the documented mechanism that would make those claims hold.
Where the pole shift theory loses the thread
The pole shift theory loses force here because Thomas is described as making very large leaps from fragments of older material rather than building from testable evidence.

That line from AJ Gentile captures the core objection. The criticism is not that Thomas lacked ambition. It is that the argument jumps from old accounts and inherited catastrophe ideas to global physical conclusions without showing the chain of proof in between.
Charles Hapgood and Immanuel Velikovsky matter here because Thomas is described as borrowing from earlier catastrophists and selecting the parts that fit his story. The complaint is not simple influence. It is cherry-picking without enough specifics. In the account given here, Thomas takes dramatic catastrophe concepts already circulating, folds them into his own theory, and treats them as if the hard part has already been settled.
Albert Einstein enters the discussion through Hapgood, not through Thomas directly. AJ Gentile says Hapgood’s first book included the idea that ice caps could knock Earth off axis, but Hapgood later published a follow-up after working with scientists including Einstein and said he had that wrong. That matters because one of the eye-catching supports for Thomas’s case is presented here as borrowed from a source that later backed away from the claim.
So the criticism is narrower and sharper than a general dismissal. It says Thomas keeps the spectacular premise, drops the later correction, and leaves you with a theory that sounds sweeping while resting on unstable foundations.
What evidence does Chan Thomas actually give?
Chan Thomas is described here as giving assertions where a scientific explanation would need evidence, a mechanism, and limits.
One example AJ Gentile singles out is Thomas’s claim that Earth’s magnetism and electricity become disrupted during the catastrophe. The objection is direct: Thomas does not show evidence for that disruption, and he does not explain how such a process would work. If you are being asked to accept a planet-wide event affecting magnetism, electricity, and axis behavior, the missing mechanism is not a side issue. It is the center of the claim.
That missing middle appears throughout the critique. Thomas is said to move from patterns in old texts to conclusions about planetary behavior, but without the intermediate proof that would let you test or falsify the idea. You are left with deductions stacked on deductions.
Immanuel Velikovsky’s presence sharpens the point. Velikovsky became famous for grand catastrophe arguments drawn across history and myth, and Thomas is described as pulling from that style of thinking without pinning his own claims to specifics. Charles Hapgood’s role does the same in a different way: a borrowed idea about ice caps shifting the Earth’s axis is presented as dramatic support even though Hapgood himself later corrected it after scientific engagement that included Albert Einstein.
The skeptical case here does not say every ancient story is worthless or every catastrophe theory is nonsense. It says Thomas’s version does not show its work. You are asked to bridge gaps that the theory itself never bridges.
The CIA file story doesn’t rescue the theory
The CIA file around The Adam and Eve Story is treated here as a much smaller story than the mythology built around it, and that matters because secrecy is often used to make weak claims feel stronger.
AJ Gentile says people often describe the release as if the CIA had been hiding a far larger book, sometimes claiming an original length of 284 pages while only 57 pages were released (18:40). But the account given here says the conclusion begins on page 45 (18:50), which undercuts the idea that the most explosive material was removed from the end.
The supposedly missing pages also get a much less dramatic explanation. Examples like page 8 and page 18 are described as blank pages, not censored revelations (18:54). In other words, the suppression story gets inflated into proof of importance, when the pagination details point to ordinary formatting rather than a buried scientific secret.
That does not make Thomas irrelevant. The theory is presented here as compelling apocalyptic storytelling, and that is part of why it lasts. It gives you patterns, hidden knowledge, ancient warnings, and a total-world reset all at once. What it does not give, in AJ Gentile’s account, is a documented scientific explanation strong enough to carry the weight of those claims.
